Teaching for education providers

We teach in vocational education and agree content, learning objectives and delivery with the education provider. Participants’ prior knowledge and questions help shape how we approach a subject.

Why is one team missing from the report?

Three teams handle requests. A report should count open requests for every team. A team with no open requests must appear too.

What changes when the condition for “open” is placed in the WHERE clause?

This question makes JOIN, filters and NULL tangible: first predict the result, then run the queries and explain why the “Administration” row disappears. Finally, add a fourth team with no requests. Is the report still complete?

How we recognise understanding

Participants can explain why LEFT JOIN alone is not enough and why COUNT(ticket.id) produces 0 here. They check their own solution with an additional test case.

A result alone does not explain how it was reached. We work through understandable steps and leave room for questions.

An explanation is followed by independent practice. We discuss solutions, examine common mistakes and use feedback to improve the material. Different starting levels are explicitly taken into account.

If you encounter a barrier or need support, you can raise it before or during our work together. We establish what adjustments are possible within the agreed setting.
